The Fruit

The Fort Mac Mac apple is a full-size apple hardy to at least zone 1 in Fort McMurray. It is a big red apple similar in size and colour to the renowned Macintosh variety. Some people say that the flavour is also quite similar. The fruit are ready for harvest around mid-September. It is absolutely one of the best quality extremely cold-hardy apples we have ever come across.

Its origin

It was discovered in Fort McMurray by a friend of ours who was contacted by someone who said they had an apple tree producing delicious apples in their yard. It is most likely a seedling rootstock that had the chance to express itself when the grafted variety died. Lucky for us.
