Minnesota 447 is a super sweet and juicy, late season apple. It is one of the most unique apples you will ever taste and one of our absolute favourites. If you want a very exotic tasting apple reminiscent of sugar cane and litchi, Minnesota 447 is the one.

The Fruit

Minnesota 447 is a small apple averaging about 2.5 inches in diameter but it packs an intense flavour that is reminiscent of sugar cane. The skin is a dark red over a yellow/gold background and the flesh is a creamy colour verging on light orange. The apple is extremely juicy and has a firm and crisp consistency. An excellent all-purpose apple, it’s a remarkable treat for fresh eating and is a particular favourite of cider makers. Fruit are ready for harvest around late September to mid-October and can be stored for 3-4 months.

The Apple Tree.

The Minnesota 447 apple tree is a relatively vigorous tree with a spreading growth pattern. It is an annual producer and is hardy to zone 4.

Its origin

This apple tree originated as a chance seedling at the University of Minnesota breeding farm in 1936. It has since played a major role in their breeding program as a parent of Keepsake and Sweet Sixteen and grandparent of Honeycrisp.
