The fruit

The Railroad apple tree gives exceptionally tasty, red, and crisp apples. The fruit hang on the tree until ripe. They can be harvested by late-September. Sweet and very tasty when eaten fresh, there is no trace of tartness in it. Quite aromatic. The flesh is a cream colour and has a fine texture, it also does not oxidize after it is cut (or very little after a very long while)

The tree

We have noticed a little sensitivity to scab, but no further problems have been detected up to now.

The origin

We discovered it a few years ago during a search for old apple trees in the countryside. It seemed like the apple tree was waiting for us, right by an old railroad track, hence its name. When we were driving back home we ate all but one. We wanted the family to taste this wonderful apple. They recommended to graft thousands of trees from it!
