The Fruit

Vekovaya pear has a very enjoyable flavour, straddling the line between sweet and sour. It received a score of 4.6/5, very impressive for a cold hardy pear. Colouration is yellow with an intense red blush on a third of the pear. Vekovaya is a large, pear shaped fruit. It can weigh up to 250 grams. The flesh is white, very crisp and juicy. Fruit can keep for 1 to 3 months after harvest.

The Pear Tree

The tree is fully hardy to Edmonton in zone 3a. It is a highly productive tree with large annual yields. It takes about 4-5 years to start fruiting and fruits are ready for harvest in mid to late September. There are no known issues with disease to this date.

The Origin

Originates from Russia where they have done a great deal of work in developing cold-hardy pears over the last century. It is the result of over 60 years of breeding.
