Fofonoff plum tree - Zone 2 - Also known as Homesteader
The Foffonof plum tree is a must for cold climate, it is hardy to zone 2 and produces a wonderful sweet plum. It originates from Saskatchewan.
The skin of Fofonoff plum is yello. Fofonoff is a firm, juicy and sweet plum. It is a good plum for fresh eating and jams and it matures in mid-August.
The Fofonoff plum tree is a hybrid plum tree and it must be pollinated with a Canada plum (Prunus nigra) to set a good amount of fruit. It is definitely hardy to zone 2. As it was developped in zone 2a, at the border with zone 1b, I think it is worth giving it a try in zone 1 too.
The original Fofonoff plum tree has been selected by Wasal Fofonoff in Buchanan, Saskatchewan in 1973.
